The Glasgow Allotment Forum is holding an online meeting tonight, Tuesday 27 October 2020, to discuss allotment access and green growing space in the city.
The Action for New Allotments meeting will be held at 7.30pm and speakers include the Green Party Councillor for Hillhead, Martha Wardrop, and Glasgow City Council Landscape Design and Development Manager, Rachel Smith.
Increased demand
The event has been put on in response to a shortage of growing plots in Glasgow and the large increase in demand as a result of the pandemic.
At the moment there are 32 allotment sites across Glasgow including one at Hamiltonhill.
People will have the opportunity to hear about and discuss:
- the opportunities for new sites in Glasgow
- the Community Empowerment Act 2015 (which includes a duty on local authorities to provide allotments – see Section 112)
- Glasgow City Council’s Food Growing Strategy (which includes an action to develop new sites if demand is shown)
Open to all
The event is open to the public, particularly to people who don’t have an allotment and those who would benefit from a new allotment site closer to home.
